Formula Tables
PGGP uses five sets of formulas to calculate grades. While this may seem like needless complexity, it allows teachers to easily report a variety of grades. You may not use all of them, but they are there for your use. All the formulas come with a default setup. Many teachers find that fine. Others think PGGP is way off base. You can change the formulas in any way as long as it is logical.
Academic Formula provides for traditional AB grading. PGGP uses this formula for subjects marked Academic in the setup.
Academic Effort Formula provides for a unique grading oportunity that other grade book rarely provide. PGGP will also figure an Traditional Effort grade (E's and O's) on subjects marked Academic in the setup. This grade is based on how many subjects are not late and not incomplete (INC).
Effort Only Formula provides for traditional E and O type grading. PGGP uses this formula for subjects marked Effort in the setup. Note that PGGP uses only one set of E and O symbols, shared with Academic Effort, Effort and Behavior.
Rubric Formula provides for standards-based grading. You can use descriptors like Basic and Below Basic along with either a 100 point scale or a rubric scale. This formula will be used for any assessment that uses the Rubric Entry and can be mixed in with either Academic or Effort subjects as you choose. Academic or Effort grades will never appear if you use purely Rubric Entry for all assessments.
Behavior Formula provides a special scale to be used in the behavior module. It shares symbols with Academic Effort and Effort Only. While some teachers turn off Behavior, you may want to take a careful look at this unique feature. You can keep an accurate, by day, record of behavior for all students in less than three minutes a day. The PGGP website has an article about behavior in three minues a day. The tutorial there uses a "card system" but can be adapted to any set of behavior incidents.
